Wednesday Room Chore

With vintage photo...

When Caitlin was little (three-years-old in this photo) I decorated new wooden knobs for her dresser so she could help put clothes away and find clothes when dressing herself.

When Joshua was about the same age he would run to her room to get socks for her every time we left to go somewhere. I realized he wanted to help because he could "read" the knobs and he knew what to do. It made him feel very good! So I made knobs for his room also that matched his room colors.

Now to keep the drawers neat! They both have favorite shirts so there was always a pile in the drawer from shirts being moved about in the search. So now every Wednesday we work on our dressers (tops and drawers) to make them tidy. Each child has their problem drawer so I will help if needed. Joshua has a "treasure" drawer that tends to need help. Caitlin's drawer is her jammie drawer - just too small of a drawer for her favorite jammies.

When they complain about doing chores we mix it up a bit to have fun. One week I told them that after I was done inspecting their drawers - they could inspect mine. (I do the same chores as them as soon as I get ready for the day.) They decided that they were all fine except my "treasure" drawer. They watched me dump everything out and went to play and checked up on me now and then. They were great encouragers all the way.

Teamwork!

If it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
~ Romans 12:8
