Everyone participated by cutting the caps off the honey comb. The caps were dripping with honey so it was quite acceptable to snatch a chunk and chew the wax until the honey was all gone. Yummy, yummy, raw, healthy honey!! It took some of the kids awhile before they would taste it. Once they did, they were back for more!
The trays were then put in the extractor.
Everyone got a turn at 'cranking out the honey'. This was a lot of work but very fun for the kids to do.
Then it was back to the beginning and working with the honey combs again. Joshua is using a tool that just scrapes the tops. Most people used knives to slice off the tops. It didn't matter which was used as long as the honey could get out if the comb during extraction.
There were six bee-keepers at this year's harvest and they had a bountiful total of 500 pounds of honey harvested.
Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
~Proverbs 24:13

What a great experience for your children to have--fun, educational, memorable!
I remember eating raw honey from the honeycomb when I was a little girl: getting a spoon to scoop up a hunk of the comb dripping with honey, then chewing and chewing. I also loved to take a drink of milk while I was chewing so that the milk would be sweetened by the honey. :)
