It was a tricky bird to identify because it appeared so large and yet all the bird book illustrations or photos made the bird look small and slim. Two of our books stated that the bird was 9 - 11 1/2 inches in length which would make it larger than a robin. And we had plenty of robins around to compare it too. We finally guessed that he was so large because all its feathers were fluffed to keep it warm in the 35 degree rainy weather.

The brown thrasher was very busy pecking through the leaves. He was fun to watch but spent most of his time under the evergreen trees. We couldn't get a photo of him but our camera, binoculars and bird books were handy for more birding just in case something else caught our eye.
We have been waiting to see the wood ducks again. Caitlin has already seen seven of them. Once the leaves come out they are easily hidden.
Spring brings so much new life and excitement around here with the birds and the buds and the blooms. I love spring.
And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."
