Sew

Yesterday Caitlin had fun with her sewing machine. She had it out on the screened in porch until it got too chilly and then moved it inside to finish her project.

She found part of a doll dress that I had begun last year and decided to finish it. She made a casing for elastic to make a skirt and used the bodice for a top. Then she made a headband and a bag to match Katie's new outfit.

It is fun to watch her explore and create with her machine. She is beginning to finish the raw edges a bit more and learning to reinforce areas that before fell apart quickly.

This past week we bought fabric for a skirt and a top for her to begin sewing for herself. We will be using patterns from Kids Sew. Caitlin is very excited about sewing for herself.

She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.

My mother tried to teach me how to sew when I was young. Sigh. It didn't go so well.

Caitlin is already way past me! Good for her!!!

So, how is your year going? What have you and the kids been working on?
